| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Latane Thrash Speer has been named the Kilgore |

| 6 | 6 | | College Ex-Student of the Year for 2008; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, After growing up in Kilgore and marrying Bobby |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Speer, Latane Speer returned to school at Kilgore College; |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | following her graduation, she went on to earn bachelor's and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | master's degrees from Stephen F. Austin State University; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, In 1970, Ms. Speer came back to Kilgore to teach |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | government and English, and today she is a full-time government |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | instructor and director of the school's cheerleading program; a |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | dedicated and engaged member of the college faculty, she takes part |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | in many activities across campus; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Speer is also an active member of the greater |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | community, serving on numerous boards for local nonprofit |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | organizations and volunteering for activities with First Baptist |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Church of Kilgore; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, For nearly 40 years, Latane Thrash Speer has been a |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | leader at Kilgore College, mentoring and inspiring generations of |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | students, and she may take pride in her longstanding commitment to |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | excellence; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Latane Thrash Speer on her |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | selection as the 2008 Kilgore College Ex-Student of the Year and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | happiness; and, be it further |
|---|
