R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Latane Thrash Speer has been named the Kilgore
College Ex-Student of the Year for 2008; and
WHEREAS, After growing up in Kilgore and marrying Bobby
Speer, Latane Speer returned to school at Kilgore College;
following her graduation, she went on to earn bachelor's and
master's degrees from Stephen F. Austin State University; and
WHEREAS, In 1970, Ms. Speer came back to Kilgore to teach
government and English, and today she is a full-time government
instructor and director of the school's cheerleading program; a
dedicated and engaged member of the college faculty, she takes part
in many activities across campus; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Speer is also an active member of the greater
community, serving on numerous boards for local nonprofit
organizations and volunteering for activities with First Baptist
Church of Kilgore; and
WHEREAS, For nearly 40 years, Latane Thrash Speer has been a
leader at Kilgore College, mentoring and inspiring generations of
students, and she may take pride in her longstanding commitment to
excellence; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Latane Thrash Speer on her
selection as the 2008 Kilgore College Ex-Student of the Year and
extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success and
happiness; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Ms. Speer as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
