55 WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the sorrow felt at
66 the untimely loss of Alejos DeLeon of Dallas, who passed away on
77 December 26, 2008, at the age of 47; and
88 WHEREAS, The son of Andres and Avelina DeLeon, Alex DeLeon
99 was born on July 21, 1961, in Denver City, Texas; he spent his early
1010 childhood in New Mexico before his family moved to Dallas in 1968;
1111 he graduated from Kimball High School and attended Hardin-Simmons
1212 University in Abilene; and
1313 WHEREAS, In 1978, Mr. DeLeon met his future wife, Mary Gomez,
1414 and the two were married in 1983; the couple shared 25 years of
1515 rewarding matrimony and were blessed with two children, Andrew and
1616 Nicole; and
1717 WHEREAS, An avid soccer player throughout his life, Mr.
1818 DeLeon earned the captain's spot on his high school team while only
1919 a freshman; he led the team to the state finals and went on to play
2020 at the college level for Hardin-Simmons; his passion for the game
2121 later motivated him to become involved in local soccer events and
2222 organizations, including many years of service with the Cup & Games
2323 Committee and with the Dallas Cup International Youth Soccer
2424 Tournament; moreover, he served a three-year term as vice president
2525 of the Oak Cliff Soccer Association and coached a local women's team
2626 since 1993 as well as a girls' under-five squad; and
2727 WHEREAS, This beloved Texan was strong in his faith, taking
2828 on the responsibilities of an altar server at Blessed Sacrament
2929 Catholic Church during his youth and becoming an usher for the
3030 congregation in his adulthood; and
3131 WHEREAS, Although his journey on this earth ended far too
3232 soon, Alex DeLeon touched the hearts of countless people with his
3333 kind and caring ways, and memories of him will forever be cherished
3434 by those fortunate enough to share in his life; now, therefore, be
3535 it
3636 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3737 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Alejos DeLeon and
3838 extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife,
3939 Mary DeLeon; to his children, Andrew and Nicole DeLeon; to his
4040 parents, Andres and Avelina DeLeon; to his sisters, Valerie Jean
4141 DeLeon and Angela Savala; and to his other relatives and many
4242 friends; and, be it further
4343 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4444 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4545 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Alex
4646 DeLeon.
