| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the sorrow felt at |

| 6 | 6 | | the untimely loss of Alejos DeLeon of Dallas, who passed away on |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | December 26, 2008, at the age of 47; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The son of Andres and Avelina DeLeon, Alex DeLeon |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | was born on July 21, 1961, in Denver City, Texas; he spent his early |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | childhood in New Mexico before his family moved to Dallas in 1968; |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | he graduated from Kimball High School and attended Hardin-Simmons |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | University in Abilene; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, In 1978, Mr. DeLeon met his future wife, Mary Gomez, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | and the two were married in 1983; the couple shared 25 years of |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | rewarding matrimony and were blessed with two children, Andrew and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Nicole; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, An avid soccer player throughout his life, Mr. |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | DeLeon earned the captain's spot on his high school team while only |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | a freshman; he led the team to the state finals and went on to play |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | at the college level for Hardin-Simmons; his passion for the game |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | later motivated him to become involved in local soccer events and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | organizations, including many years of service with the Cup & Games |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Committee and with the Dallas Cup International Youth Soccer |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Tournament; moreover, he served a three-year term as vice president |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | of the Oak Cliff Soccer Association and coached a local women's team |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | since 1993 as well as a girls' under-five squad; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, This beloved Texan was strong in his faith, taking |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | on the responsibilities of an altar server at Blessed Sacrament |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Catholic Church during his youth and becoming an usher for the |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | congregation in his adulthood; and |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Although his journey on this earth ended far too |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | soon, Alex DeLeon touched the hearts of countless people with his |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | kind and caring ways, and memories of him will forever be cherished |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | by those fortunate enough to share in his life; now, therefore, be |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | it |

| 36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Alejos DeLeon and |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | Mary DeLeon; to his children, Andrew and Nicole DeLeon; to his |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | parents, Andres and Avelina DeLeon; to his sisters, Valerie Jean |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | DeLeon and Angela Savala; and to his other relatives and many |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | friends; and, be it further |
