55 R E S O L U T I O N
66 WHEREAS, Family and friends of Center resident Gene Borders
77 were deeply saddened by his passing on August 19, 2008, at the age
88 of 66; and
99 WHEREAS, Gene Borders was born in Port Arthur on February 17,
1010 1942, to A. E. and Susie Dearing Borders; he enjoyed a rewarding
1111 marriage with his wife, Christene, and was a loving father to his
1212 daughters, Gena Porterfield, Delicia Eaves, Christy Mills, and the
1313 late Cheree Borders Smith; and
1414 WHEREAS, A successful entrepreneur, Mr. Borders operated the
1515 timber business A Borders Enterprise; he shared his time with a
1616 number of professional organizations, serving on the board of the
1717 Texas Forestry Association and as a charter member and chair of the
1818 Texas Logging Council; his dedicated efforts to defend private
1919 property rights earned him the title of TLC 2006 Political Activist
2020 of the Year; and
2121 WHEREAS, Mr. Borders was also a valued member of the First
2222 United Pentecostal Church in Center, where he served his
2323 congregation as a trustee and board member; and
2424 WHEREAS, Gene Borders lived a caring and purposeful life, and
2525 he leaves behind memories that will be forever treasured by those
2626 fortunate enough to share in his love and affection; now,
2727 therefore, be it
2828 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
2929 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Gene Borders and
3030 extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife,
3131 Christene Borders; to his daughters, Gena Porterfield and her
3232 husband, Danny, Delicia Eaves and her husband, Larry Joe, and
3333 Christy Mills and her husband, Ronnie; to his grandchildren, Rece
3434 Porterfield, Rena Horton and her husband, Brian, Blake Smith, Jasa
3535 Rodgers, Caleb McDonald, and Joshua McDonald; to his
3636 great-grandson, Keithan Brice Horton; to his brothers, Ronnie and
3737 Donnie Borders; to his son-in-law, Charles Smith, and his wife,
3838 Holly; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it
3939 further
4040 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4141 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4242 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Gene
4343 Borders.
