| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends of Center resident Gene Borders |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | were deeply saddened by his passing on August 19, 2008, at the age |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | of 66; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Gene Borders was born in Port Arthur on February 17, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | 1942, to A. E. and Susie Dearing Borders; he enjoyed a rewarding |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | marriage with his wife, Christene, and was a loving father to his |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | daughters, Gena Porterfield, Delicia Eaves, Christy Mills, and the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | late Cheree Borders Smith; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, A successful entrepreneur, Mr. Borders operated the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | timber business A Borders Enterprise; he shared his time with a |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | number of professional organizations, serving on the board of the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Texas Forestry Association and as a charter member and chair of the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Texas Logging Council; his dedicated efforts to defend private |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | property rights earned him the title of TLC 2006 Political Activist |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | of the Year; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Borders was also a valued member of the First |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | United Pentecostal Church in Center, where he served his |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | congregation as a trustee and board member; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Gene Borders lived a caring and purposeful life, and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | he leaves behind memories that will be forever treasured by those |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | fortunate enough to share in his love and affection; now, |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 29 | 29 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Gene Borders and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, |

| 31 | 31 | | Christene Borders; to his daughters, Gena Porterfield and her |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | husband, Danny, Delicia Eaves and her husband, Larry Joe, and |

| 33 | 33 | | Christy Mills and her husband, Ronnie; to his grandchildren, Rece |

| 34 | 34 | | Porterfield, Rena Horton and her husband, Brian, Blake Smith, Jasa |
