44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, A full and generous life came to an end with the
66 passing of George M. Turner of Austin on November 1, 2008, at the
77 age of 72; and
88 WHEREAS, Mr. Turner was the president of the State Employees
99 Golf Association of Texas at the time of his passing, and he had
1010 held that office numerous times previously; he had a longtime
1111 interest in the sport and had worked as a golf pro for many years at
1212 several Austin courses; his extensive work with SEGA increased the
1313 association's membership from 40 to more than 200, and during his
1414 extraordinary tenure with the organization, he was considered the
1515 SEGA "Ambassador of Golf"; and
1616 WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan was a U.S. Navy veteran and a
1717 former state employee, and he also spent many years ranching in
1818 Driftwood, where he was a charter member of the volunteer fire
1919 department; moreover, his involvement in the community included
2020 service as a deacon at Central Christian Church in Austin; and
2121 WHEREAS, George Turner had kind words for everyone he met,
2222 and he touched many lives with his tireless work in behalf of SEGA;
2323 although he is deeply missed, he is remembered with admiration and
2424 affection by all those who were privileged to share in his company;
2525 now, therefore, be it
2626 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
2727 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of George Turner and
2828 extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife,
2929 Earlene Turner; to his children, Terri Sparks, Danny Turner and his
3030 wife, Brenda, Jolynn Smith and her husband, Fred, and Donnie Turner
3131 and his wife, Cari; to his stepdaughter, Karla Eppler; to his
3232 stepson, Kurt Eppler, and his wife, Camilla; to his 12
3333 grandchildren; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be
3434 it further
3535 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3636 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
3737 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of George
3838 Turner.
