| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A full and generous life came to an end with the |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | passing of George M. Turner of Austin on November 1, 2008, at the |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | age of 72; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Turner was the president of the State Employees |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Golf Association of Texas at the time of his passing, and he had |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | held that office numerous times previously; he had a longtime |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | interest in the sport and had worked as a golf pro for many years at |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | several Austin courses; his extensive work with SEGA increased the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | association's membership from 40 to more than 200, and during his |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | extraordinary tenure with the organization, he was considered the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | SEGA "Ambassador of Golf"; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan was a U.S. Navy veteran and a |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | former state employee, and he also spent many years ranching in |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Driftwood, where he was a charter member of the volunteer fire |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | department; moreover, his involvement in the community included |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | service as a deacon at Central Christian Church in Austin; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, George Turner had kind words for everyone he met, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | and he touched many lives with his tireless work in behalf of SEGA; |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | although he is deeply missed, he is remembered with admiration and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | affection by all those who were privileged to share in his company; |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of George Turner and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Earlene Turner; to his children, Terri Sparks, Danny Turner and his |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | wife, Brenda, Jolynn Smith and her husband, Fred, and Donnie Turner |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | and his wife, Cari; to his stepdaughter, Karla Eppler; to his |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | stepson, Kurt Eppler, and his wife, Camilla; to his 12 |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | grandchildren; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be |
