 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, After nearly two decades of distinguished service,
 Jim Wyatt is retiring from the Victoria City Council in May 2009;
 and
 WHEREAS, Victoria's first African American council member
 and mayor pro tempore, Jim Wyatt won the District 5 seat in 1988 and
 held it until 1995; since his return to the city council in 2000, he
 has served continuously through his current term, and he has chosen
 not to seek reelection; having been employed as a materials manager
 for DuPont, Mr. Wyatt brought a unique perspective and a range of
 business expertise to municipal government, and he played an
 instrumental role in such projects as the sports complex, the skate
 park, and Lone Tree Road; he was also particularly interested in
 providing programs and activities for at-risk youth, and he
 encouraged them to seek peaceful means of resolving conflicts; and
 WHEREAS, In addition to his participation on the city
 council, Mr. Wyatt has served on the board of directors of the Texas
 Municipal League and as president of the Texas Association of
 Mayors and Council Members; he has also been active in numerous
 community organizations, including the African American Chamber of
 Commerce of Victoria, the Task Force Toward Community Peace, and
 the Victoria World Hunger Project; and
 WHEREAS, A dedicated public servant, Jim Wyatt is an
 inspiration to his fellow citizens, and he may indeed reflect with
 great pride on his many notable achievements; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby honor Jim Wyatt for his outstanding
 contributions to the Victoria City Council and extend to him
 sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it
 further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Mr. Wyatt as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
