| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A 55th wedding anniversary marks a lifetime of love |

| 6 | 6 | | and shared experiences, and Vernon and Clara Harkins of Midland |

| 7 | 7 | | celebrated this joyous event in their marriage on January 30, 2009; |

| 8 | 8 | | and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Vernon Harkins and the former Clara Crocker were |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | joined in matrimony in 1954, at a ceremony held in Fort Sumner, New |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Mexico; they have since shared a fulfilling marriage and raised |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | five beloved children, David Harkins, Becki Tomamichel, Julie Cobb, |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Johanna Elmore, and the late Brenda Saunders; with the passing |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | years, they have welcomed the addition of 11 grandchildren and 10 |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | great-grandchildren into their family; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Respected members of their community, the couple |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | followed employment opportunities for Mr. Harkins in the oil |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | industry and lived in Colorado, Nebraska, New Mexico, and Odessa |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | before settling in Midland; his career included work with Shell Oil |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Company and TXO Production, from which he retired after 17 years; |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Mrs. Harkins is a dedicated homemaker who has won awards as a |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | talented doll maker; together they are valued congregants of First |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | United Pentecostal Church; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Harkins have enjoyed 5-1/2 decades of |

| 25 | 25 | | abiding love and affection for one another, and they are among an |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | exceptional group of men and women who can claim such a lasting |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | commitment; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 29 | 29 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Vernon and Clara Harkins on their |
