 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, A 55th wedding anniversary marks a lifetime of love
 and shared experiences, and Vernon and Clara Harkins of Midland
 celebrated this joyous event in their marriage on January 30, 2009;
 and
 WHEREAS, Vernon Harkins and the former Clara Crocker were
 joined in matrimony in 1954, at a ceremony held in Fort Sumner, New
 Mexico; they have since shared a fulfilling marriage and raised
 five beloved children, David Harkins, Becki Tomamichel, Julie Cobb,
 Johanna Elmore, and the late Brenda Saunders; with the passing
 years, they have welcomed the addition of 11 grandchildren and 10
 great-grandchildren into their family; and
 WHEREAS, Respected members of their community, the couple
 followed employment opportunities for Mr. Harkins in the oil
 industry and lived in Colorado, Nebraska, New Mexico, and Odessa
 before settling in Midland; his career included work with Shell Oil
 Company and TXO Production, from which he retired after 17 years;
 Mrs. Harkins is a dedicated homemaker who has won awards as a
 talented doll maker; together they are valued congregants of First
 United Pentecostal Church; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Harkins have enjoyed 5-1/2 decades of
 abiding love and affection for one another, and they are among an
 exceptional group of men and women who can claim such a lasting
 commitment; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Vernon and Clara Harkins on their
 55th wedding anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes for
 continued happiness; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Harkins as an expression of high regard by
 the Texas House of Representatives.
