5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, John W. Cooper has been inducted into the Odessa |

6 | 6 | | Chamber of Commerce Hall of Fame, and this occasion provides a |
---|
7 | 7 | | fitting opportunity to honor this esteemed Texan; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born in San Antonio on June 28, 1925, John Cooper |
---|
9 | 9 | | went on to graduate from Alamo Heights High School and to earn a |
---|
10 | 10 | | bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Texas A&M University; |
---|
11 | 11 | | answering his nation's call to duty, he joined the U.S. Army and |
---|
12 | 12 | | served as an officer in the Philippines during World War II; in |
---|
13 | 13 | | 1947, he married Doris Couch in Gainesville, and the couple were |
---|
14 | 14 | | blessed with two children, Deborah and John; they later shared the |
---|
15 | 15 | | joy of welcoming four grandchildren into their treasured family; |
---|
16 | 16 | | and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Since 1952, Mr. Cooper has owned a general |
---|
18 | 18 | | construction business in Odessa, and his company has built numerous |
---|
19 | 19 | | schools, churches, manufacturing plants, and other structures in |
---|
20 | 20 | | Texas, New Mexico, and other states; in addition, Mr. Cooper has |
---|
21 | 21 | | served as president of the West Texas chapter of the Associated |
---|
22 | 22 | | General Contractors of America, as well as the Kiwanis Club of |
---|
23 | 23 | | Odessa, the Odessa Country Club, and the Midland-Odessa Symphony |
---|
24 | 24 | | and Chorale; he has also volunteered his time as a board member of |
---|
25 | 25 | | the Salvation Army, United Way, Permian Playhouse, Odessa Boys Club |
---|
26 | 26 | | Foundation, and Seabury Center, and he has been a faithful |
---|
27 | 27 | | congregant of St. John's Episcopal Church for more than five |
---|
28 | 28 | | decades; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Dedicated to his community and his profession, John |
---|
30 | 30 | | Cooper has garnered the lasting respect and admiration of his |
---|
31 | 31 | | fellow residents, and he may indeed reflect with great pride on his |
---|
32 | 32 | | civic contributions; now, therefore, be it |
---|
33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
---|
34 | 34 | | Legislature hereby congratulate John W. Cooper on his induction |

35 | 35 | | into the Odessa Chamber of Commerce Hall of Fame and extend to him |
