44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Sydney Drain of Spring has been named a
66 Distinguished Finalist in the 2009 Prudential Spirit of Community
77 Awards, one of only 10 finalists in the State of Texas; and
88 WHEREAS, Sponsored by Prudential Financial and the National
99 Association of Secondary School Principals, the Spirit of Community
1010 Awards honor young people in middle school and high school for
1111 outstanding volunteer service; students are chosen at the local,
1212 state, and national levels, and more than 80,000 young volunteers
1313 have been honored in the 13 years of the program; and
1414 WHEREAS, A 17-year-old senior at Klein Collins High School,
1515 Ms. Drain created and sold T-shirts through her church and several
1616 local schools and raised $30,000 for the "Water Is Basic" program,
1717 which drills wells for clean water in the Sudan; the amount she
1818 raised is enough to create 30 wells; and
1919 WHEREAS, This outstanding young woman has demonstrated great
2020 compassion, initiative, and determination in pursuit of a selfless
2121 goal, and she is a source of great pride to her family and her
2222 school; now, therefore, be it
2323 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
2424 Legislature hereby congratulate Sydney Drain on her selection as a
2525 Distinguished Finalist in the 2009 Prudential Spirit of Community
2626 Awards and extend to her sincere best wishes for a bright future;
2727 and, be it further
2828 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2929 prepared for Ms. Drain as an expression of high regard by the Texas
3030 House of Representatives.
