H.R. No. 964 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Sydney Drain of Spring has been named a Distinguished Finalist in the 2009 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, one of only 10 finalists in the State of Texas; and WHEREAS, Sponsored by Prudential Financial and the National Association of Secondary School Principals, the Spirit of Community Awards honor young people in middle school and high school for outstanding volunteer service; students are chosen at the local, state, and national levels, and more than 80,000 young volunteers have been honored in the 13 years of the program; and WHEREAS, A 17-year-old senior at Klein Collins High School, Ms. Drain created and sold T-shirts through her church and several local schools and raised $30,000 for the "Water Is Basic" program, which drills wells for clean water in the Sudan; the amount she raised is enough to create 30 wells; and WHEREAS, This outstanding young woman has demonstrated great compassion, initiative, and determination in pursuit of a selfless goal, and she is a source of great pride to her family and her school; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Sydney Drain on her selection as a Distinguished Finalist in the 2009 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards and extend to her sincere best wishes for a bright future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Drain as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
