44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, National Women's History Month is being celebrated
66 throughout March 2009, and this observance provides a fitting
77 opportunity to recognize the Rio Grande Valley Chapter of the
88 Hispanic Women's Network of Texas; and
99 WHEREAS, In 1987, HWNT was founded as a statewide
1010 organization to promote the participation of Hispanic women in the
1111 public, corporate, and civic arenas; 200 women from across the Lone
1212 Star State gathered in Dallas for the network's initial conference
1313 and discussed areas of concern to women and Latinos; drawing
1414 strength from their diverse backgrounds, occupations, and life
1515 experiences, they committed to remain united to address common
1616 issues; and
1717 WHEREAS, The network today has nine chapters, representing
1818 the Rio Grande Valley area and the cities of Austin, Corpus Christi,
1919 Dallas, Denton, Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio, and Laredo; the
2020 Rio Grande Valley Chapter has become one of the fastest-growing
2121 business networking groups in the region; its members participate
2222 in HWNT activities to make a positive impact in their communities
2323 while advancing the educational, cultural, social, legal, and
2424 economic well-being of all women and raising awareness of the
2525 richness of Hispanic culture; HWNT has sponsored and supported
2626 educational, mentoring, and intergenerational programs,
2727 achievement awards, and such events as the Women's Rights to Vote
2828 Celebration, Hispanic Summit, and Emerging Leaders Conference; and
2929 WHEREAS, For more than two decades, the members of the
3030 Hispanic Women's Network of Texas have worked together to improve
3131 the lives of women, to serve their communities, and to share ideas
3232 and encouragement; through their noteworthy endeavors, the members
3333 of the Rio Grande Valley Chapter have demonstrated admirable
3434 dedication to the ideals and purpose of this fine organization;
3535 now, therefore, be it
3636 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3737 Legislature hereby recognize the Rio Grande Valley Chapter of the
3838 Hispanic Women's Network of Texas on the occasion of National
3939 Women's History Month and commend the members for their
4040 contributions to their community; and, be it further
4141 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4242 prepared for the chapter as an expression of high regard by the
4343 Texas House of Representatives.
