5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, National Women's History Month is being celebrated |

6 | 6 | | throughout March 2009, and this observance provides a fitting |
---|
7 | 7 | | opportunity to recognize the Rio Grande Valley Chapter of the |
---|
8 | 8 | | Hispanic Women's Network of Texas; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, In 1987, HWNT was founded as a statewide |
---|
10 | 10 | | organization to promote the participation of Hispanic women in the |
---|
11 | 11 | | public, corporate, and civic arenas; 200 women from across the Lone |
---|
12 | 12 | | Star State gathered in Dallas for the network's initial conference |
---|
13 | 13 | | and discussed areas of concern to women and Latinos; drawing |
---|
14 | 14 | | strength from their diverse backgrounds, occupations, and life |
---|
15 | 15 | | experiences, they committed to remain united to address common |
---|
16 | 16 | | issues; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, The network today has nine chapters, representing |
---|
18 | 18 | | the Rio Grande Valley area and the cities of Austin, Corpus Christi, |
---|
19 | 19 | | Dallas, Denton, Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio, and Laredo; the |
---|
20 | 20 | | Rio Grande Valley Chapter has become one of the fastest-growing |
---|
21 | 21 | | business networking groups in the region; its members participate |
---|
22 | 22 | | in HWNT activities to make a positive impact in their communities |
---|
23 | 23 | | while advancing the educational, cultural, social, legal, and |
---|
24 | 24 | | economic well-being of all women and raising awareness of the |
---|
25 | 25 | | richness of Hispanic culture; HWNT has sponsored and supported |
---|
26 | 26 | | educational, mentoring, and intergenerational programs, |
---|
27 | 27 | | achievement awards, and such events as the Women's Rights to Vote |
---|
28 | 28 | | Celebration, Hispanic Summit, and Emerging Leaders Conference; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, For more than two decades, the members of the |
---|
30 | 30 | | Hispanic Women's Network of Texas have worked together to improve |
---|
31 | 31 | | the lives of women, to serve their communities, and to share ideas |
---|
32 | 32 | | and encouragement; through their noteworthy endeavors, the members |
---|
33 | 33 | | of the Rio Grande Valley Chapter have demonstrated admirable |
---|
34 | 34 | | dedication to the ideals and purpose of this fine organization; |
---|
35 | 35 | | now, therefore, be it |

36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

37 | 37 | | Legislature hereby recognize the Rio Grande Valley Chapter of the |
