 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, National Women's History Month is being celebrated
 throughout March 2009, and this observance provides a fitting
 opportunity to recognize the Rio Grande Valley Chapter of the
 Hispanic Women's Network of Texas; and
 WHEREAS, In 1987, HWNT was founded as a statewide
 organization to promote the participation of Hispanic women in the
 public, corporate, and civic arenas; 200 women from across the Lone
 Star State gathered in Dallas for the network's initial conference
 and discussed areas of concern to women and Latinos; drawing
 strength from their diverse backgrounds, occupations, and life
 experiences, they committed to remain united to address common
 issues; and
 WHEREAS, The network today has nine chapters, representing
 the Rio Grande Valley area and the cities of Austin, Corpus Christi,
 Dallas, Denton, Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio, and Laredo; the
 Rio Grande Valley Chapter has become one of the fastest-growing
 business networking groups in the region; its members participate
 in HWNT activities to make a positive impact in their communities
 while advancing the educational, cultural, social, legal, and
 economic well-being of all women and raising awareness of the
 richness of Hispanic culture; HWNT has sponsored and supported
 educational, mentoring, and intergenerational programs,
 achievement awards, and such events as the Women's Rights to Vote
 Celebration, Hispanic Summit, and Emerging Leaders Conference; and
 WHEREAS, For more than two decades, the members of the
 Hispanic Women's Network of Texas have worked together to improve
 the lives of women, to serve their communities, and to share ideas
 and encouragement; through their noteworthy endeavors, the members
 of the Rio Grande Valley Chapter have demonstrated admirable
 dedication to the ideals and purpose of this fine organization;
 now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby recognize the Rio Grande Valley Chapter of the
 Hispanic Women's Network of Texas on the occasion of National
 Women's History Month and commend the members for their
 contributions to their community; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the chapter as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
