| 12 | 12 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 13 | 13 | SECTION 1. Subchapter R, Chapter 521, Transportation Code, | |
| 14 | 14 | is amended by adding Section 521.429 to read as follows: | |
| 15 | 15 | Sec. 521.429. SERVICE CHARGE FOR CERTAIN TRANSACTIONS. | |
| 16 | 16 | (a) The department shall impose a service charge of $5 for each | |
| 17 | 17 | renewal driver's license or personal identification certificate | |
| 18 | 18 | for which an application is filed in person if the applicant is | |
| 19 | 19 | eligible to apply for renewal by mail, by telephone, or by an | |
| 20 | 20 | electronic means provided by the department. | |
| 21 | 21 | (b) A driver's license or personal identification | |
| 22 | 22 | certificate renewal notice issued by the department must contain | |
| 23 | 23 | information regarding the service charge imposed under this | |
| 24 | 24 | section. | |
| 25 | 25 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009. | |
