| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Subsection (a), Section 96.703, Education Code, | |
| 11 | 11 | is amended to read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | (a) In the city of Beaumont, the [The] board shall establish | |
| 13 | 13 | and maintain a lower-division institution of higher education [an | |
| 14 | 14 | educational center of Lamar University] as a separate | |
| 15 | 15 | degree-granting institution to be known as Lamar Institute of | |
| 16 | 16 | Technology. | |
| 17 | 17 | SECTION 2. Subsection (c), Section 96.703, Education Code, | |
| 18 | 18 | is repealed. | |
| 19 | 19 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
| 20 | 20 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
| 21 | 21 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
| 22 | 22 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
| 23 | 23 | Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
