88 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 773, Health and Safety
1010 Code, is amended by adding Section 773.0415 to read as follows:
1111 Sec. 773.0415. CERTIFICATION OF SEX OFFENDER PROHIBITED. A
1212 person who has been convicted of or placed on deferred adjudication
1313 for an offense for which the person is subject to registration under
1414 Chapter 62, Code of Criminal Procedure, may not be certified as any
1515 type of emergency medical services personnel under this chapter.
1616 SECTION 2. (a) The change in law made by this Act applies
1717 only to the renewal of an emergency medical technician certificate
1818 that expires on or after the effective date of this Act. A
1919 certificate that expires before the effective date of this Act is
2020 governed by the law in effect on the date the certificate was
2121 issued, and the former law is continued in effect for that purpose.
2222 (b) The change in law made by this Act applies to an
2323 application for an emergency medical technician certificate that is
2424 pending on the effective date of this Act or that is filed on or
2525 after that date.
2626 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
