8 | 8 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
9 | 9 | SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 773, Health and Safety | |
10 | 10 | Code, is amended by adding Section 773.0415 to read as follows: | |
11 | 11 | Sec. 773.0415. CERTIFICATION OF SEX OFFENDER PROHIBITED. A | |
12 | 12 | person who has been convicted of or placed on deferred adjudication | |
13 | 13 | for an offense for which the person is subject to registration under | |
14 | 14 | Chapter 62, Code of Criminal Procedure, may not be certified as any | |
15 | 15 | type of emergency medical services personnel under this chapter. | |
16 | 16 | SECTION 2. (a) The change in law made by this Act applies | |
17 | 17 | only to the renewal of an emergency medical technician certificate | |
18 | 18 | that expires on or after the effective date of this Act. A | |
19 | 19 | certificate that expires before the effective date of this Act is | |
20 | 20 | governed by the law in effect on the date the certificate was | |
21 | 21 | issued, and the former law is continued in effect for that purpose. | |
22 | 22 | (b) The change in law made by this Act applies to an | |
23 | 23 | application for an emergency medical technician certificate that is | |
24 | 24 | pending on the effective date of this Act or that is filed on or | |
25 | 25 | after that date. | |
26 | 26 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
