5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A distinguished career in the field of education |
---|
6 | 6 | | drew to a close with the retirement of Linda Muhl from Dr. John D. |
---|
7 | 7 | | Horn High School in Mesquite in May 2008; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born in Aquilla, Linda Muhl moved to Mesquite at the |
---|
9 | 9 | | age of four and graduated from Mesquite High School in 1955; she is |
---|
10 | 10 | | the mother of four children, Andy, Peter, Kip, and Sally, and she |
---|
11 | 11 | | and her husband, Andrew H. Muhl, Jr., have also welcomed 10 |
---|
12 | 12 | | grandchildren and a great-granddaughter into their family; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Muhl enrolled in college at age 36, and she |
---|
14 | 14 | | joined the faculty at North Mesquite High School six years later; |
---|
15 | 15 | | her tenure at the school extended for 20 years, during which she |
---|
16 | 16 | | taught social studies and English; she went on to establish the |
---|
17 | 17 | | Gifted Department at Horn High School, teaching there for nine |
---|
18 | 18 | | years; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, This outstanding educator emphasized discovery in |
---|
20 | 20 | | her classes, and she often recited insightful sayings to her |
---|
21 | 21 | | students, such as "making a difference in this world is much more |
---|
22 | 22 | | important than getting a big paycheck" and "no kind thoughts are |
---|
23 | 23 | | ever meaningful left unshared"; one of her favorite maxims is |
---|
24 | 24 | | especially well remembered by many of her students: "do not let life |
---|
25 | 25 | | pass you by like a train in the night; jump aboard, seizing every |
---|
26 | 26 | | opportunity possible"; this phrase not only inspired many young |
---|
27 | 27 | | people to take account of the opportunities available to them, but |
---|
28 | 28 | | also summed up the positive approach that Mrs. Muhl took in her own |
---|
29 | 29 | | life in realizing her dream of becoming an educator; and |
---|
30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Several prestigious accolades have come to Mrs. Muhl |
---|
31 | 31 | | over the course of her 29-year career, including induction into the |
---|
32 | 32 | | Mesquite Independent School District Apple Corps, an honor society |
---|
33 | 33 | | for local teachers, and selection as Outstanding High School |
---|
34 | 34 | | Teacher of the Year for 2000 by the Texas Council of Teachers of |
---|
35 | 35 | | English; in addition, she holds life memberships in the North |
---|
36 | 36 | | Mesquite High School and John Horn High School Parent Teacher |
---|
37 | 37 | | Associations; and |
---|
38 | 38 | | WHEREAS, Educators as enthusiastic and inspiring as Linda |
---|
39 | 39 | | Muhl are deserving of the highest respect, and her exceptional |
---|
40 | 40 | | vitality and dedication have made a lasting and positive impression |
---|
41 | 41 | | on her students and her fellow teachers; a great asset to the |
---|
42 | 42 | | Mesquite ISD throughout her tenure, she may indeed reflect with |
---|
43 | 43 | | pride on a career well spent; now, therefore, be it |
---|
44 | 44 | | RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas |
---|
45 | 45 | | hereby congratulate Linda Muhl on her retirement from Horn High |
---|
46 | 46 | | School in Mesquite and extend to her sincere best wishes for the |
---|
47 | 47 | | future; and, be it further |
---|
48 | 48 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
---|
49 | 49 | | prepared for Mrs. Muhl as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
---|
50 | 50 | | House of Representatives and Senate. |
