44 SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
55 WHEREAS, A distinguished career in the field of education
66 drew to a close with the retirement of Linda Muhl from Dr. John D.
77 Horn High School in Mesquite in May 2008; and
88 WHEREAS, Born in Aquilla, Linda Muhl moved to Mesquite at the
99 age of four and graduated from Mesquite High School in 1955; she is
1010 the mother of four children, Andy, Peter, Kip, and Sally, and she
1111 and her husband, Andrew H. Muhl, Jr., have also welcomed 10
1212 grandchildren and a great-granddaughter into their family; and
1313 WHEREAS, Mrs. Muhl enrolled in college at age 36, and she
1414 joined the faculty at North Mesquite High School six years later;
1515 her tenure at the school extended for 20 years, during which she
1616 taught social studies and English; she went on to establish the
1717 Gifted Department at Horn High School, teaching there for nine
1818 years; and
1919 WHEREAS, This outstanding educator emphasized discovery in
2020 her classes, and she often recited insightful sayings to her
2121 students, such as "making a difference in this world is much more
2222 important than getting a big paycheck" and "no kind thoughts are
2323 ever meaningful left unshared"; one of her favorite maxims is
2424 especially well remembered by many of her students: "do not let life
2525 pass you by like a train in the night; jump aboard, seizing every
2626 opportunity possible"; this phrase not only inspired many young
2727 people to take account of the opportunities available to them, but
2828 also summed up the positive approach that Mrs. Muhl took in her own
2929 life in realizing her dream of becoming an educator; and
3030 WHEREAS, Several prestigious accolades have come to Mrs. Muhl
3131 over the course of her 29-year career, including induction into the
3232 Mesquite Independent School District Apple Corps, an honor society
3333 for local teachers, and selection as Outstanding High School
3434 Teacher of the Year for 2000 by the Texas Council of Teachers of
3535 English; in addition, she holds life memberships in the North
3636 Mesquite High School and John Horn High School Parent Teacher
3737 Associations; and
3838 WHEREAS, Educators as enthusiastic and inspiring as Linda
3939 Muhl are deserving of the highest respect, and her exceptional
4040 vitality and dedication have made a lasting and positive impression
4141 on her students and her fellow teachers; a great asset to the
4242 Mesquite ISD throughout her tenure, she may indeed reflect with
4343 pride on a career well spent; now, therefore, be it
4444 RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas
4545 hereby congratulate Linda Muhl on her retirement from Horn High
4646 School in Mesquite and extend to her sincere best wishes for the
4747 future; and, be it further
4848 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4949 prepared for Mrs. Muhl as an expression of high regard by the Texas
5050 House of Representatives and Senate.
