44 SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
55 WHEREAS, The Lone Star State lost a dedicated law enforcement
66 officer when Texas game warden George Harold Whatley, Jr., died in
77 the line of duty on October 10, 2008, at the age of 45; and
88 WHEREAS, A graduate of the 52nd Texas Game Warden Academy in
99 2007, Game Warden Whatley was stationed in Van Horn as a member of
1010 the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department law enforcement division;
1111 he upheld the highest standards of his profession during his time
1212 with the agency, and he played an active role in protecting the
1313 state's environment, wildlife, and natural resources; and
1414 WHEREAS, George Whatley was born in Atlanta, Texas, on
1515 September 19, 1963; he graduated from Linden-Kildare High School in
1616 1982 and went on to earn a degree at The University of Texas at Tyler
1717 in 1986; an individual of many interests and talents, he worked in a
1818 variety of occupations, including those of teacher, tree planter,
1919 construction worker, rancher, and railcar mechanic, before
2020 beginning his service as a game warden; and
2121 WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, he enjoyed the love and
2222 support of his wife, Kelly, and his sons, Samuel and Seth, and he
2323 also took great comfort in his spiritual faith; and
2424 WHEREAS, Known for the professionalism that he exhibited in
2525 his work, for his profound commitment to upholding the laws of our
2626 state, and for his devotion to his family and his faith, George
2727 Whatley will forever be remembered with great admiration and
2828 affection; now, therefore, be it
2929 RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas
3030 hereby pay tribute to the life of George Harold Whatley, Jr., and
3131 extend deepest condolences to the members of his family: to his
3232 wife, Kelly Mitchell Whatley; to his sons, Samuel Miles Whatley and
3333 Seth Mitchell Whatley; to his siblings, Michael Whatley and his
3434 wife, Kandi, Susie Jackson and her husband, Randy, Sandy Whatley,
3535 and Sharon Crowder and her husband, Ricky; to his mother-in-law,
3636 Lois Mitchell; to his sister-in-law, Letha Mitchell Cross, and her
3737 husband, Mike; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it
3838 further
3939 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4040 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4141 Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of
4242 Game Warden Whatley.
