5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Lone Star State lost a dedicated law enforcement |

6 | 6 | | officer when Texas game warden George Harold Whatley, Jr., died in |
---|
7 | 7 | | the line of duty on October 10, 2008, at the age of 45; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A graduate of the 52nd Texas Game Warden Academy in |
---|
9 | 9 | | 2007, Game Warden Whatley was stationed in Van Horn as a member of |
---|
10 | 10 | | the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department law enforcement division; |
---|
11 | 11 | | he upheld the highest standards of his profession during his time |
---|
12 | 12 | | with the agency, and he played an active role in protecting the |
---|
13 | 13 | | state's environment, wildlife, and natural resources; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, George Whatley was born in Atlanta, Texas, on |
---|
15 | 15 | | September 19, 1963; he graduated from Linden-Kildare High School in |
---|
16 | 16 | | 1982 and went on to earn a degree at The University of Texas at Tyler |
---|
17 | 17 | | in 1986; an individual of many interests and talents, he worked in a |
---|
18 | 18 | | variety of occupations, including those of teacher, tree planter, |
---|
19 | 19 | | construction worker, rancher, and railcar mechanic, before |
---|
20 | 20 | | beginning his service as a game warden; and |
---|
21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, he enjoyed the love and |
---|
22 | 22 | | support of his wife, Kelly, and his sons, Samuel and Seth, and he |
---|
23 | 23 | | also took great comfort in his spiritual faith; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Known for the professionalism that he exhibited in |
---|
25 | 25 | | his work, for his profound commitment to upholding the laws of our |
---|
26 | 26 | | state, and for his devotion to his family and his faith, George |
---|
27 | 27 | | Whatley will forever be remembered with great admiration and |
---|
28 | 28 | | affection; now, therefore, be it |

29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas |

30 | 30 | | hereby pay tribute to the life of George Harold Whatley, Jr., and |

31 | 31 | | extend deepest condolences to the members of his family: to his |
