11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1007
22 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
33 recognize David Stewart, who is retiring as director of the Alamo
44 after more than six years of exemplary service; and
55 WHEREAS, David Stewart came to the Alamo in 2002 after
66 working as national executive director of the American
77 Volkssport Association; a decorated Vietnam War veteran and
88 native of San Antonio, he graduated from Bay City High School in
99 1957 and earned a bachelor of arts degree from the University of
1010 Saint Thomas in Houston in 1961; and
1111 WHEREAS, He enlisted in the United States Army after
1212 studying law for one year at the University of Houston; he served
1313 his country for 24 years and held various assignments in the Air
1414 Defense Artillery and in public affairs; he retired as a
1515 lieutenant colonel; and
1616 WHEREAS, David received a master of science degree in
1717 journalism from the University of Kansas in 1974 and continued
1818 his education at the University of South Carolina in the Army
1919 Advanced Public Affairs Course; he earned a master of education
2020 degree in administration from The University of Texas at El Paso;
2121 and
2222 WHEREAS, After retiring from the army, he was an
2323 educational administrator for two years, and in 1988, he became
2424 the manager of communications for the El Paso Chamber of Commerce
2525 and editor of El Paso Magazine; he then worked as vice president
2626 of El Paso View Publishing Corporation and executive editor of El
2727 Paso View magazine and joined the American Volkssport
2828 Association in Universal City in 1991; and
2929 WHEREAS, He has held leadership roles in many professional
3030 associations and has been active in civic organizations wherever
3131 he lived; in addition to numerous military service medals,
3232 including the Bronze Star, he has received wide recognition for
3333 his volunteer and community service work; and
3434 WHEREAS, Throughout his tenure as director of the Alamo,
3535 David demonstrated a high level of energy, integrity, and
3636 professionalism, and his services will be greatly missed; now,
3737 therefore, be it
3838 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
3939 Legislature, hereby commend David Stewart on his outstanding
4040 career and his loyal service to this state as director of the
4141 Alamo and extend to him best wishes for the future; and, be it
4242 further
4343 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
4444 him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
