2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

3 | 3 | | recognize David Stewart, who is retiring as director of the Alamo |
---|
4 | 4 | | after more than six years of exemplary service; and |
---|
5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, David Stewart came to the Alamo in 2002 after |
---|
6 | 6 | | working as national executive director of the American |
---|
7 | 7 | | Volkssport Association; a decorated Vietnam War veteran and |
---|
8 | 8 | | native of San Antonio, he graduated from Bay City High School in |
---|
9 | 9 | | 1957 and earned a bachelor of arts degree from the University of |
---|
10 | 10 | | Saint Thomas in Houston in 1961; and |
---|
11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, He enlisted in the United States Army after |
---|
12 | 12 | | studying law for one year at the University of Houston; he served |
---|
13 | 13 | | his country for 24 years and held various assignments in the Air |
---|
14 | 14 | | Defense Artillery and in public affairs; he retired as a |
---|
15 | 15 | | lieutenant colonel; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, David received a master of science degree in |
---|
17 | 17 | | journalism from the University of Kansas in 1974 and continued |
---|
18 | 18 | | his education at the University of South Carolina in the Army |
---|
19 | 19 | | Advanced Public Affairs Course; he earned a master of education |
---|
20 | 20 | | degree in administration from The University of Texas at El Paso; |
---|
21 | 21 | | and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, After retiring from the army, he was an |
---|
23 | 23 | | educational administrator for two years, and in 1988, he became |
---|
24 | 24 | | the manager of communications for the El Paso Chamber of Commerce |
---|
25 | 25 | | and editor of El Paso Magazine; he then worked as vice president |
---|
26 | 26 | | of El Paso View Publishing Corporation and executive editor of El |
---|
27 | 27 | | Paso View magazine and joined the American Volkssport |
---|
28 | 28 | | Association in Universal City in 1991; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, He has held leadership roles in many professional |
---|
30 | 30 | | associations and has been active in civic organizations wherever |
---|
31 | 31 | | he lived; in addition to numerous military service medals, |
---|
32 | 32 | | including the Bronze Star, he has received wide recognition for |
---|
33 | 33 | | his volunteer and community service work; and |
---|
34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Throughout his tenure as director of the Alamo, |
---|
35 | 35 | | David demonstrated a high level of energy, integrity, and |
---|
36 | 36 | | professionalism, and his services will be greatly missed; now, |
---|
37 | 37 | | therefore, be it |
---|
38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
---|
39 | 39 | | Legislature, hereby commend David Stewart on his outstanding |
---|
40 | 40 | | career and his loyal service to this state as director of the |
---|
41 | 41 | | Alamo and extend to him best wishes for the future; and, be it |
---|
42 | 42 | | further |
---|
43 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
---|
44 | 44 | | him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. |
