                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1007
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 recognize David Stewart, who is retiring as director of the Alamo
 after more than six years of exemplary service; and
 WHEREAS, David Stewart came to the Alamo in 2002 after
 working as national executive director of the American
 Volkssport Association; a decorated Vietnam War veteran and
 native of San Antonio, he graduated from Bay City High School in
 1957 and earned a bachelor of arts degree from the University of
 Saint Thomas in Houston in 1961; and
 WHEREAS, He enlisted in the United States Army after
 studying law for one year at the University of Houston; he served
 his country for 24 years and held various assignments in the Air
 Defense Artillery and in public affairs; he retired as a
 lieutenant colonel; and
 WHEREAS, David received a master of science degree in
 journalism from the University of Kansas in 1974 and continued
 his education at the University of South Carolina in the Army
 Advanced Public Affairs Course; he earned a master of education
 degree in administration from The University of Texas at El Paso;
 and
 WHEREAS, After retiring from the army, he was an
 educational administrator for two years, and in 1988, he became
 the manager of communications for the El Paso Chamber of Commerce
 and editor of El Paso Magazine; he then worked as vice president
 of El Paso View Publishing Corporation and executive editor of El
 Paso View magazine and joined the American Volkssport
 Association in Universal City in 1991; and
 WHEREAS, He has held leadership roles in many professional
 associations and has been active in civic organizations wherever
 he lived; in addition to numerous military service medals,
 including the Bronze Star, he has received wide recognition for
 his volunteer and community service work; and
 WHEREAS, Throughout his tenure as director of the Alamo,
 David demonstrated a high level of energy, integrity, and
 professionalism, and his services will be greatly missed; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
 Legislature, hereby commend David Stewart on his outstanding
 career and his loyal service to this state as director of the
 Alamo and extend to him best wishes for the future; and, be it
 further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
