SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1008 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Mamie's Restaurant, which is closing its doors after nearly a half century of delivering outstanding food and service to the San Antonio community; and WHEREAS, Established in 1960 by Mamie Wong, this San Antonio institution has grown from a small location at Carter and Zarzamora Streets where people waited in long lines for the excellent fish dinners to a restaurant that has become a gathering place for generations of families to meet, work, and eat in a family-friendly atmosphere; and WHEREAS, When Mamie Wong retired in 1981, her son Wallace moved the business to its current location; through the years, it has not only provided area residents with excellent food and service, but also served as a place where young people could gain valuable work experience and where neighborhood regulars and employees alike could enjoy the pleasures of seeing each other's families grow to adulthood; and WHEREAS, Mamie's Restaurant has served the citizens of San Antonio well and faithfully for nearly 50 years, and although it is closing its doors, it will live on in the memories of the countless people who have enjoyed its charms; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby commend the Wong family for its commitment to quality and service throughout nearly half a century of operating Mamie's Restaurant and extend to them best wishes for continued success in all their future endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in commemoration of the closing of this San Antonio institution and as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
