| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Carlos and Mary Frances Atkinson, lifelong residents |

| 4 | 4 | | of Brownsville, Texas, on the occasion of their 50th wedding |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | anniversary, on February 5, 2009; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Carlos and Mary were married February 5, 1959, and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | they have successfully raised eight children: Carlos, Ricardo, |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Sandra, David, Mary Frances, Charles, Sylvia, and Christie; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Carlos and Mary have faithfully participated in |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | the education and welfare of their children by serving as |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | president and vice president of the Parent Teacher Organization, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | the Parent Teacher Association, the athletic booster club, and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | the band booster club, as Cub Scout and Boy Scout den mother, as |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Brownie and Girl Scout sponsor, as coaches for Little League |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Baseball, Little League Football, Minor League Baseball, Major |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | League Baseball, and girls' softball, as class sponsor, as drill |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | team and cheerleader sponsor, and as Sunday school teacher, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | church youth sponsors, and ministers of hospitality; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Carlos and Mary are admired and respected by their |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | community, and they continue to serve as role models because of |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | their commitment to family values and service to their church and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | community; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Legislature, hereby commend Carlos and Mary Frances Atkinson for |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | their exceptional commitment to each other and to their community |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | and extend to them congratulations on their Golden Anniversary |

| 27 | 27 | | and best wishes for the years ahead; and, be it further |
