SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 111
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Carlos and Mary Frances Atkinson, lifelong residents
of Brownsville, Texas, on the occasion of their 50th wedding
anniversary, on February 5, 2009; and
WHEREAS, Carlos and Mary were married February 5, 1959, and
they have successfully raised eight children: Carlos, Ricardo,
Sandra, David, Mary Frances, Charles, Sylvia, and Christie; and
WHEREAS, Carlos and Mary have faithfully participated in
the education and welfare of their children by serving as
president and vice president of the Parent Teacher Organization,
the Parent Teacher Association, the athletic booster club, and
the band booster club, as Cub Scout and Boy Scout den mother, as
Brownie and Girl Scout sponsor, as coaches for Little League
Baseball, Little League Football, Minor League Baseball, Major
League Baseball, and girls' softball, as class sponsor, as drill
team and cheerleader sponsor, and as Sunday school teacher,
church youth sponsors, and ministers of hospitality; and
WHEREAS, Carlos and Mary are admired and respected by their
community, and they continue to serve as role models because of
their commitment to family values and service to their church and
community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
Legislature, hereby commend Carlos and Mary Frances Atkinson for
their exceptional commitment to each other and to their community
and extend to them congratulations on their Golden Anniversary
and best wishes for the years ahead; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
them as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
