44 Fred V. Buitron
55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
66 citizens of Brownsville in mourning the loss of Fred V. Buitron,
77 who died January 9, 2009, at the age of 56; and
88 WHEREAS, A 1971 graduate of Brownsville High School, Mr.
99 Buitron attended Texas A&I University, where he rose to the rank
1010 of colonel in the Reserve Officers' Training Corps; he was
1111 commissioned into the United States Army as a member of the Field
1212 Artillery Corps and proudly served his country until his
1313 honorable discharge with the rank of captain in 1982; and
1414 WHEREAS, Mr. Buitron had a productive career as an
1515 educator, teaching technology courses at various schools in the
1616 Brownsville Independent School District; he also worked as a
1717 volunteer for the Reserve Officers' Training Corps, leading its
1818 drill teams to award-winning performances; and
1919 WHEREAS, While teaching at Hubert R. Hudson Elementary
2020 School, he played a vital role in the school's chess program,
2121 whose teams earned numerous awards at national, state, and local
2222 levels, including two second place finishes at the national
2323 championships; and
2424 WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he
2525 gave unselfishly to others, and his commitment and dedication to
2626 his family and students will not be forgotten; and
2727 WHEREAS, A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he
2828 was beloved by his family and friends, and he will long be
2929 remembered for his generous spirit and his many accomplishments;
3030 now, therefore, be it
3131 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
3232 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
3333 family and friends of Fred V. Buitron; and, be it further
3434 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3535 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
3636 Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
3737 memory of Fred V. Buitron.
