| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | citizens of Brownsville in mourning the loss of Fred V. Buitron, |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | who died January 9, 2009, at the age of 56; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A 1971 graduate of Brownsville High School, Mr. |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Buitron attended Texas A&I University, where he rose to the rank |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | of colonel in the Reserve Officers' Training Corps; he was |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | commissioned into the United States Army as a member of the Field |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Artillery Corps and proudly served his country until his |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | honorable discharge with the rank of captain in 1982; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Buitron had a productive career as an |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | educator, teaching technology courses at various schools in the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Brownsville Independent School District; he also worked as a |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | volunteer for the Reserve Officers' Training Corps, leading its |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | drill teams to award-winning performances; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, While teaching at Hubert R. Hudson Elementary |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | School, he played a vital role in the school's chess program, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | whose teams earned numerous awards at national, state, and local |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | levels, including two second place finishes at the national |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | championships; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | gave unselfishly to others, and his commitment and dedication to |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | his family and students will not be forgotten; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | was beloved by his family and friends, and he will long be |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | remembered for his generous spirit and his many accomplishments; |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | family and friends of Fred V. Buitron; and, be it further |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | memory of Fred V. Buitron. |
