SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 112 In Memory of Fred V. Buitron WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens of Brownsville in mourning the loss of Fred V. Buitron, who died January 9, 2009, at the age of 56; and WHEREAS, A 1971 graduate of Brownsville High School, Mr. Buitron attended Texas A&I University, where he rose to the rank of colonel in the Reserve Officers' Training Corps; he was commissioned into the United States Army as a member of the Field Artillery Corps and proudly served his country until his honorable discharge with the rank of captain in 1982; and WHEREAS, Mr. Buitron had a productive career as an educator, teaching technology courses at various schools in the Brownsville Independent School District; he also worked as a volunteer for the Reserve Officers' Training Corps, leading its drill teams to award-winning performances; and WHEREAS, While teaching at Hubert R. Hudson Elementary School, he played a vital role in the school's chess program, whose teams earned numerous awards at national, state, and local levels, including two second place finishes at the national championships; and WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he gave unselfishly to others, and his commitment and dedication to his family and students will not be forgotten; and WHEREAS, A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he was beloved by his family and friends, and he will long be remembered for his generous spirit and his many accomplishments; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family and friends of Fred V. Buitron; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Fred V. Buitron.
