                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 182
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure in
 recognizing Philip J. Ritter, who is retiring from his position
 as senior vice president with Texas Instruments, Incorporated;
 and
 WHEREAS, After 20 years of loyal service with Texas
 Instruments, Mr. Ritter is retiring to pursue long-held plans for
 public service; prior to joining Texas Instruments, Mr. Ritter
 served as an attorney for Sun Exploration and Production Company;
 he joined Texas Instruments in 1989 and served as counsel in the
 company's law department; and
 WHEREAS, Elected senior vice president of Texas
 Instruments in September of 2001, he assumed leadership of the
 company's Public Affairs department and has had global
 responsibility for the company's governmental relations and
 philanthropic and community activities; and
 WHEREAS, Entrusted with the company's reputation and
 legacy of corporate citizenship, he has served with intelligence
 and passion, and his talent and skill are manifest in the
 company's impressive standing with governmental, civic, and
 community leaders today; and
 WHEREAS, In addition to establishing critical
 relationships for Texas Instruments, Phil has formed tax and
 trade policies that assured market access and saved the company
 millions of dollars annually; he has been responsible for
 philanthropic strategies in China, India, and Europe and for the
 company's educational initiatives on state and national levels;
 and
 WHEREAS, Phil Ritter has also served as an outstanding
 leader in his community, and his role in that regard has been an
 asset to Texas Instruments, as well as to the many organizations
 with which he has been affiliated; his notable leadership has
 included serving as chairman of the board of United Way of
 Metropolitan Dallas, chairing the Dallas County Community
 College District bond campaign in 2004, and serving on the Dallas
 Area Rapid Transit Board in the 1990s; he is the 2008 recipient of
 the Leadership Dallas Distinguished Alumni Award; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
 Legislature, hereby commend Philip J. Ritter on his invaluable
 contributions to Texas Instruments and his exemplary dedication
 to the company and the community and extend to him best wishes for
 the future; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
