| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, SafeHaven of Tarrant County is holding its |

| 3 | 3 | | inaugural Legacy of Men Breakfast on February 17, 2009; and |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | WHEREAS, Formed in 2006, SafeHaven resulted from the |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | merger of the Women's Shelter and Women's Haven, two Tarrant |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | County organizations that had similar missions, programs, and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | goals; the combined resources of these two groups allowed |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | SafeHaven to make a significant contribution to the community |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | beginning in its first year, when the organization sheltered more |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | than 2,500 abused women and children, answered almost 44,000 |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | hotline calls, provided over 150,000 meals, and educated more |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | than 60,000 area residents about domestic violence and shelter |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | services; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, The Legacy of Men Breakfast features a keynote |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | speech by social activist and former professional football |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | player Don McPherson, and the first Legacy of Men Award will be |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | presented to Jason Witten of the Dallas Cowboys; Mr. Witten is an |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | outspoken advocate on the issue of preventing domestic violence |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | and has created the SCORE Foundation to help fund male mentoring |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | programs and domestic violence shelters; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Honorary chair for the event is Robert Cluck, the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | mayor of Arlington, and the host committee consists of such |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | prominent community members as Jamie Adams, Terry Akin, Ruben |

| 24 | 24 | | Anguiano, Bill Barnes, Bill Bowie, Theron Bowman, Joe Bruner, |

| 25 | 25 | | Larry Darlage, Sal Espino, Bob Ginsburg, Weldon Hafley, Santos |

| 33 | 33 | | worthwhile activities carried out by this admirable |

| 35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |

| 36 | 36 | | Legislature, hereby honor SafeHaven of Tarrant County on the |

| 37 | 37 | | occasion of its inaugural Legacy of Men Breakfast and extend to |

| 38 | 38 | | all those associated with the event and the organization sincere |
