                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 207
 WHEREAS, SafeHaven of Tarrant County is holding its
 inaugural Legacy of Men Breakfast on February 17, 2009; and
 WHEREAS, Formed in 2006, SafeHaven resulted from the
 merger of the Women's Shelter and Women's Haven, two Tarrant
 County organizations that had similar missions, programs, and
 goals; the combined resources of these two groups allowed
 SafeHaven to make a significant contribution to the community
 beginning in its first year, when the organization sheltered more
 than 2,500 abused women and children, answered almost 44,000
 hotline calls, provided over 150,000 meals, and educated more
 than 60,000 area residents about domestic violence and shelter
 services; and
 WHEREAS, The Legacy of Men Breakfast features a keynote
 speech by social activist and former professional football
 player Don McPherson, and the first Legacy of Men Award will be
 presented to Jason Witten of the Dallas Cowboys; Mr. Witten is an
 outspoken advocate on the issue of preventing domestic violence
 and has created the SCORE Foundation to help fund male mentoring
 programs and domestic violence shelters; and
 WHEREAS, Honorary chair for the event is Robert Cluck, the
 mayor of Arlington, and the host committee consists of such
 prominent community members as Jamie Adams, Terry Akin, Ruben
 Anguiano, Bill Barnes, Bill Bowie, Theron Bowman, Joe Bruner,
 Larry Darlage, Sal Espino, Bob Ginsburg, Weldon Hafley, Santos
 Hernandez, Bob Lansford, Don Leaman, Tim McKinney, Scott Murray,
 Kent Nix, David O'Brien, Peter Parsinen, Charlie Powell, Buddy
 Puente, Paul Ray, P. D. Shabay, Mike Stone, Scott Turnage, Wes
 Turner, and John Wallace; and
 WHEREAS, SafeHaven is an institution of tremendous benefit
 to the citizens of Tarrant County, and the inaugural Legacy of
 Men Breakfast is a fitting way to raise awareness of the
 worthwhile activities carried out by this admirable
 organization; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
 Legislature, hereby honor SafeHaven of Tarrant County on the
 occasion of its inaugural Legacy of Men Breakfast and extend to
 all those associated with the event and the organization sincere
 best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
 prepared for SafeHaven as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas Senate.
