SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 225 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Michael T. Puckett, who is retiring as executive director of Charro Days, Incorporated; and WHEREAS, Mr. Puckett began his involvement with Charro Days in 1963 when he volunteered to drive a float in the Charro Days parade; he served as chairman of the parades from 1972 to 1994, and he began his tenure as executive director in 1995; and WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Mr. Puckett has been dedicated to serving the public; he was elected four times as Cameron County treasurer and has served as director of the Brownsville Chamber of Commerce and the Brownsville Convention and Visitors Bureau; and WHEREAS, Talented and resourceful, Mr. Puckett has been noted for his superior organizing skills; his ability to obtain volunteers and get them involved has served as an example to event organizers across the country; and WHEREAS, Charro Days has more than tripled its number of entries, participants, and spectators since Mr. Puckett began his involvement; he has left an indelible mark on this exemplary event that showcases the friendship between Brownsville and Matamoros and that generates growth and revenue for the area; and WHEREAS, An exemplary public servant, Mr. Puckett is respected and admired by his colleagues, and his presence as executive director of Charro Days will be greatly missed; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby commend Michael T. Puckett on his many contributions to the continuing success of Charro Days and extend to him best wishes for the retirement years ahead; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
