5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |

6 | 6 | | citizens of Rancho Viejo in mourning the loss of Betty Rusteberg |

7 | 7 | | Stevenson, who died November 27, 2008, at the age of 80; and |

8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born November 25, 1928, in Brownsville, Betty |
---|
9 | 9 | | Stevenson was a lifelong resident of the Rio Grande Valley, but |
---|
10 | 10 | | her curiosity and passion for travel took her around the world; |
---|
11 | 11 | | and |
---|
12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Stevenson was an exemplary citizen who was |
---|
13 | 13 | | respected in the community for her many accomplishments and |
---|
14 | 14 | | contributions; she served on the boards of the Crippled |
---|
15 | 15 | | Children's Foundation of Brownsville and the Vannie Cook Cancer |
---|
16 | 16 | | Foundation of McAllen, and she served as president of the Women |
---|
17 | 17 | | of the Church of the Advent, Episcopal; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, She helped establish the Episcopal Day School and |
---|
19 | 19 | | worked tirelessly to ensure its success, and she served as a |
---|
20 | 20 | | docent and director of the Gladys Porter Zoo; an avid skier and |
---|
21 | 21 | | golfer, she belonged to the Rancho Viejo Ladies Golf Association |
---|
22 | 22 | | and was a fixture as a competitor in its tournaments; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, A woman of courage, compassion, and generosity, |
---|
24 | 24 | | Betty Stevenson gave unselfishly to others, and her wisdom, |
---|
25 | 25 | | warmth, and passion for living each day to the fullest will not be |
---|
26 | 26 | | forgotten by those who knew her; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she will |
---|
28 | 28 | | long be remembered for her generous spirit and her many |
---|
29 | 29 | | accomplishments; now, therefore, be it |
---|
30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |

31 | 31 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |

32 | 32 | | family of Betty Rusteberg Stevenson: her husband of 20 years, |

33 | 33 | | William E. Stevenson; her daughter and son-in-law, Janet and |

34 | 34 | | Sumner Schoenike; her son and daughter-in-law, Robert Richardson |
