44 Betty Rusteberg Stevenson
55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
66 citizens of Rancho Viejo in mourning the loss of Betty Rusteberg
77 Stevenson, who died November 27, 2008, at the age of 80; and
88 WHEREAS, Born November 25, 1928, in Brownsville, Betty
99 Stevenson was a lifelong resident of the Rio Grande Valley, but
1010 her curiosity and passion for travel took her around the world;
1111 and
1212 WHEREAS, Mrs. Stevenson was an exemplary citizen who was
1313 respected in the community for her many accomplishments and
1414 contributions; she served on the boards of the Crippled
1515 Children's Foundation of Brownsville and the Vannie Cook Cancer
1616 Foundation of McAllen, and she served as president of the Women
1717 of the Church of the Advent, Episcopal; and
1818 WHEREAS, She helped establish the Episcopal Day School and
1919 worked tirelessly to ensure its success, and she served as a
2020 docent and director of the Gladys Porter Zoo; an avid skier and
2121 golfer, she belonged to the Rancho Viejo Ladies Golf Association
2222 and was a fixture as a competitor in its tournaments; and
2323 WHEREAS, A woman of courage, compassion, and generosity,
2424 Betty Stevenson gave unselfishly to others, and her wisdom,
2525 warmth, and passion for living each day to the fullest will not be
2626 forgotten by those who knew her; and
2727 WHEREAS, A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she will
2828 long be remembered for her generous spirit and her many
2929 accomplishments; now, therefore, be it
3030 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
3131 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
3232 family of Betty Rusteberg Stevenson: her husband of 20 years,
3333 William E. Stevenson; her daughter and son-in-law, Janet and
3434 Sumner Schoenike; her son and daughter-in-law, Robert Richardson
3535 and Sonia; her brother, Fred Rusteberg; her sisters, June
3636 Dittman, Freda Stone, and Joy Burns; and her grandchildren, Celi,
3737 Shannon, Elaine, and Leigh; and, be it further
3838 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3939 her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
4040 Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
4141 memory of Betty Rusteberg Stevenson.
