                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 226
 In Memory
 of
 Betty Rusteberg Stevenson
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
 citizens of Rancho Viejo in mourning the loss of Betty Rusteberg
 Stevenson, who died November 27, 2008, at the age of 80; and
 WHEREAS, Born November 25, 1928, in Brownsville, Betty
 Stevenson was a lifelong resident of the Rio Grande Valley, but
 her curiosity and passion for travel took her around the world;
 and
 WHEREAS, Mrs. Stevenson was an exemplary citizen who was
 respected in the community for her many accomplishments and
 contributions; she served on the boards of the Crippled
 Children's Foundation of Brownsville and the Vannie Cook Cancer
 Foundation of McAllen, and she served as president of the Women
 of the Church of the Advent, Episcopal; and
 WHEREAS, She helped establish the Episcopal Day School and
 worked tirelessly to ensure its success, and she served as a
 docent and director of the Gladys Porter Zoo; an avid skier and
 golfer, she belonged to the Rancho Viejo Ladies Golf Association
 and was a fixture as a competitor in its tournaments; and
 WHEREAS, A woman of courage, compassion, and generosity,
 Betty Stevenson gave unselfishly to others, and her wisdom,
 warmth, and passion for living each day to the fullest will not be
 forgotten by those who knew her; and
 WHEREAS, A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she will
 long be remembered for her generous spirit and her many
 accomplishments; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
 family of Betty Rusteberg Stevenson: her husband of 20 years,
 William E. Stevenson; her daughter and son-in-law, Janet and
 Sumner Schoenike; her son and daughter-in-law, Robert Richardson
 and Sonia; her brother, Fred Rusteberg; her sisters, June
 Dittman, Freda Stone, and Joy Burns; and her grandchildren, Celi,
 Shannon, Elaine, and Leigh; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
 Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
 memory of Betty Rusteberg Stevenson.
