| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to pay |

| 3 | 3 | | tribute to the Most Reverend Raymundo J. Pea, Bishop of the |

| 4 | 4 | | Diocese of Brownsville, on the grand occasion of his 75th |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | birthday; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Well known for his warmth and generosity of |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | spirit, this distinguished clergyman has devoted his time and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | energy unselfishly to the people of his diocese since 1995; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Bishop Pea was born February 19, 1934; he was |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | ordained to the priesthood on May 25, 1957, in Corpus Christi, |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | and he has served his church with wisdom and humility in various |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | positions through the years, including auxiliary bishop of the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Archdiocese of San Antonio and bishop of the Diocese of El Paso; |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, In May, 1995, Pope John Paul II asked Bishop Pea |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | to move to the Diocese of Brownsville, containing one of the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | largest and fastest-growing Catholic populations in the United |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | States; on August 7, 1995, Bishop Raymundo J. Pea was installed |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | as the fifth bishop of Brownsville; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, An accomplished scholar and theologian, he has |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | ministered faithfully to the temporal and spiritual needs of |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | innumerable people; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Bishop Pea is a beloved and respected member of |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | his community, and he is noted for his courage, his compassion, |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | and his enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest; now, |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | therefore, be it |

| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Legislature, hereby recognize the Most Reverend Raymundo J. |

| 29 | 29 | | Pea, Bishop of the Diocese of Brownsville, as a treasured |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | citizen of our state and extend to him best wishes for a joyful |

| 31 | 31 | | 75th birthday; and, be it further |

| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
