| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Student Government Association and the Alumni |

| 3 | 3 | | Association of Stephen F. Austin State University are visiting |

| 4 | 4 | | the State Capitol on February 18, 2009, and this noteworthy |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | occasion provides a fitting opportunity to honor these |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | commendable organizations and commemorate the 85th anniversary |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | of Stephen F. Austin State University; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Stephen F. Austin State University welcomed its |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | first class of students on September 18, 1923--the birthday of |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | its first president, Dr. Alton W. Birdwell--and since that day |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | has proudly produced more than 100,000 graduates through its six |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | academic college divisions; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Stephen F. Austin State University, with |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | approximately 12,000 students, offers the breadth of a state |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | university education with the personal attention of a private |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | university through more than 80 undergraduate majors, 120 areas |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | of study, nearly 60 graduate degrees, and two doctoral programs; |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Serving as the voice of the student body, the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Student Government Association is an effective conduit through |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | which students express concerns and make suggestions to |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | university administration; it also regularly passes legislation |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | to improve the quality of student life at the university; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, The Stephen F. Austin State University Alumni |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Association serves as the voice for more than 100,000 graduates |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | and is dedicated to serving the alumni, friends, and current |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | students of the university through programs, scholarships, and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | activities that create an attitude of continued loyalty and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | support; now, therefore, be it |

| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Legislature, hereby recognize February 18, 2009, as Stephen F. |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Austin State University, SFA Student Government Association, and |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | SFA Alumni Association Day and extend to the organizations' |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | members sincere best wishes for success and happiness in their |
|---|

| 36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
