| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize E. Brice Cunningham, a legacy honoree of the Urban |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | League of Greater Dallas, for his outstanding achievements and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | his many contributions to his profession and his community; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Cunningham is being honored at the annual |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | meeting luncheon of the Urban League of Greater Dallas on |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | February 26, 2009; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A retired attorney and president of E. Brice |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Cunningham, a professional corporation, Mr. Cunningham enjoyed a |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | distinguished legal career that spanned nearly five decades; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Cunningham served the National Association |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | for the Advancement of Colored People as an attorney in numerous |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | desegregation cases, including The United States of America, et |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | al. v. The State of Texas, et al., which involved the statewide |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | school desegregation lawsuit; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Cunningham also served as the attorney for |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | intervenors in Eddie Mitchell Tasby, et al. v. Dallas Independent |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | School District, et al.; he is also an ordained minister and has |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | preached throughout the country; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Cunningham has received numerous awards for |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | his exemplary service, including the NAACP Award for Outstanding |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Service and the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Justice Award from |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | the Dallas bar associations; he is truly deserving of recognition |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | for his many accomplishments; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature, hereby commend E. Brice Cunningham on his many |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | achievements and his contributions to the practice of law and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | congratulate him on being honored as a legacy honoree by the |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Urban League of Greater Dallas; and, be it further |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |

| 32 | 32 | | him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
