SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 269 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize E. Brice Cunningham, a legacy honoree of the Urban League of Greater Dallas, for his outstanding achievements and his many contributions to his profession and his community; and WHEREAS, Mr. Cunningham is being honored at the annual meeting luncheon of the Urban League of Greater Dallas on February 26, 2009; and WHEREAS, A retired attorney and president of E. Brice Cunningham, a professional corporation, Mr. Cunningham enjoyed a distinguished legal career that spanned nearly five decades; and WHEREAS, Mr. Cunningham served the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People as an attorney in numerous desegregation cases, including The United States of America, et al. v. The State of Texas, et al., which involved the statewide school desegregation lawsuit; and WHEREAS, Mr. Cunningham also served as the attorney for intervenors in Eddie Mitchell Tasby, et al. v. Dallas Independent School District, et al.; he is also an ordained minister and has preached throughout the country; and WHEREAS, Mr. Cunningham has received numerous awards for his exemplary service, including the NAACP Award for Outstanding Service and the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Justice Award from the Dallas bar associations; he is truly deserving of recognition for his many accomplishments; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby commend E. Brice Cunningham on his many achievements and his contributions to the practice of law and congratulate him on being honored as a legacy honoree by the Urban League of Greater Dallas; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
