SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 297 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure in recognizing Felix Fraga for his many contributions to the Houston community and to Houston Community College; and WHEREAS, The Southeast Drennan Campus of Houston Community College is being named the Felix Fraga Campus in recognition of Mr. Fraga's dedicated service to the college and to Houston's East End; and WHEREAS, Mr. Fraga has worked tirelessly to improve the community's social, economic, and physical surroundings; currently the vice president of external affairs for the Neighborhood Centers, Incorporated, he began working for the organization in 1947 as a youth worker at Rusk Settlement, now known as the Kirkland-Ripley Community Center; he also managed the Ripley House Community Center in Houston's Second Ward from 1970 to 1990; and WHEREAS, Through Mr. Fraga's efforts, individuals, companies, and foundations have come together to provide resources for underserved neighborhoods; to give Houston's East End a voice, Mr. Fraga represented District H on the Houston City Council from 1994 to 1999; and WHEREAS, In addition, he served as a Houston Independent School District board member from 1990 to 1994, and he played an active role in helping to create the collaboration that now exists between the district and Houston Community College; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby commend Felix Fraga on his exceptional leadership and his accomplishments on behalf of the Houston community and extend congratulations to him on being honored by Houston Community College; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
