1	1	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 325
2	2	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	3	recognize Christina Hooks, who has been named one of the top
4	4	youth volunteers in Texas for 2009 and a Distinguished Finalist
5	5	by the 14th annual Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program;
6	6	and
7	7	WHEREAS, These prestigious awards honor young people
8	8	across America for outstanding volunteer service to their
9	9	communities; the awards program is conducted by Prudential
10	10	Financial in partnership with the National Association of
11	11	Secondary School Principals with the support of numerous
12	12	national youth, service, and professional organizations; and
13	13	WHEREAS, Christina is a senior at Westlake High School in
14	14	Austin; she is being recognized for her efforts in working with a
15	15	group of nine girls over the last seven years, volunteering and
16	16	raising funds for animal rescue facilities and habitat
17	17	preserves; for the last three years she has also volunteered at a
18	18	camp for disabled children; and
19	19	WHEREAS, Young people in public and private middle schools
20	20	and high schools and in community organizations such as Girl
21	21	Scout councils and American Red Cross chapters were eligible for
22	22	the awards; their selection was based on criteria that included
23	23	personal initiative, creativity, effort, and impact; and
24	24	WHEREAS, Christina is an excellent representative of the
25	25	fine young people in our state and our nation who work
26	26	unselfishly for the betterment of their communities, and she is
27	27	truly worthy of special recognition; now, therefore, be it
28	28	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
29	29	Legislature, hereby commend Christina Hooks for her commitment
30	30	to volunteerism and service to her community and extend to her
31	31	congratulations on being named a 2009 Prudential Spirit of
32	32	Community Awards Distinguished Finalist; and, be it further
33	33	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
34	34	her as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
