SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 325 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Christina Hooks, who has been named one of the top youth volunteers in Texas for 2009 and a Distinguished Finalist by the 14th annual Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program; and WHEREAS, These prestigious awards honor young people across America for outstanding volunteer service to their communities; the awards program is conducted by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals with the support of numerous national youth, service, and professional organizations; and WHEREAS, Christina is a senior at Westlake High School in Austin; she is being recognized for her efforts in working with a group of nine girls over the last seven years, volunteering and raising funds for animal rescue facilities and habitat preserves; for the last three years she has also volunteered at a camp for disabled children; and WHEREAS, Young people in public and private middle schools and high schools and in community organizations such as Girl Scout councils and American Red Cross chapters were eligible for the awards; their selection was based on criteria that included personal initiative, creativity, effort, and impact; and WHEREAS, Christina is an excellent representative of the fine young people in our state and our nation who work unselfishly for the betterment of their communities, and she is truly worthy of special recognition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby commend Christina Hooks for her commitment to volunteerism and service to her community and extend to her congratulations on being named a 2009 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards Distinguished Finalist; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
