| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize April 10, 2009, as Texas Folklore Society Day in honor |

| 4 | 4 | | of the Texas Folklore Society's 100th anniversary; and |

| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Texas Folklore Society is having its annual |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | meeting in Nacogdoches on April 9 through 11, 2009, with many |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | special events to commemorate the historic event; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The society is dedicated to preserving and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | presenting the legends, customs, beliefs, superstitions, songs, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | and crafts of Texas and the Southwest; founded at The University |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | of Texas in 1909, the society has called Stephen F. Austin State |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | University home since 1971; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Prominent members of the organization have |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | included such popular figures as J. Frank Dobie, Walter Prescott |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Webb, Dorothy Scarborough, and Harry Ransom; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, The Texas Folklore Society has recorded the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | folklore of Texas in 65 full-length books of the Publications of |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | the Texas Folklore Society series and has sponsored or promoted |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | the publication of 35 additional books; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, By recording and preserving Texas life as |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | expressed in folklore, the Texas Folklore Society is providing a |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | valuable resource for future generations of Texans; now, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Legislature, hereby extend best wishes to the members of the |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Texas Folklore Society for a rewarding 100th anniversary |

| 27 | 27 | | celebration and recognize April 10, 2009, as Texas Folklore |

| 28 | 28 | | Society Day in honor of the occasion; and, be it further |
