SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 400 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize April 10, 2009, as Texas Folklore Society Day in honor of the Texas Folklore Society's 100th anniversary; and WHEREAS, The Texas Folklore Society is having its annual meeting in Nacogdoches on April 9 through 11, 2009, with many special events to commemorate the historic event; and WHEREAS, The society is dedicated to preserving and presenting the legends, customs, beliefs, superstitions, songs, and crafts of Texas and the Southwest; founded at The University of Texas in 1909, the society has called Stephen F. Austin State University home since 1971; and WHEREAS, Prominent members of the organization have included such popular figures as J. Frank Dobie, Walter Prescott Webb, Dorothy Scarborough, and Harry Ransom; and WHEREAS, The Texas Folklore Society has recorded the folklore of Texas in 65 full-length books of the Publications of the Texas Folklore Society series and has sponsored or promoted the publication of 35 additional books; and WHEREAS, By recording and preserving Texas life as expressed in folklore, the Texas Folklore Society is providing a valuable resource for future generations of Texans; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby extend best wishes to the members of the Texas Folklore Society for a rewarding 100th anniversary celebration and recognize April 10, 2009, as Texas Folklore Society Day in honor of the occasion; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared to commemorate this special occasion.
