5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |

6 | 6 | | citizens of Austin in mourning the loss of Sergeant Malcolm |
---|
7 | 7 | | Kenneth Wilson of the Austin Police Department, who died March 6, |
---|
8 | 8 | | 2009, at the age of 55; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Malcolm Kenneth "Kenny" Wilson was born in |
---|
10 | 10 | | Merced, California, on December 5, 1953; he moved to Austin with |
---|
11 | 11 | | his family in 1965 and graduated from Reagan High School; he |
---|
12 | 12 | | attended Austin Community College and worked as a police officer |
---|
13 | 13 | | for The University of Texas before joining the Austin Police |
---|
14 | 14 | | Department in 1980; and |
---|
15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, He was a highly respected leader in the Austin |
---|
16 | 16 | | Police Department and in the community; he had been the sergeant |
---|
17 | 17 | | of the Bomb Squad since 2001 and a member of the Special Weapons |
---|
18 | 18 | | and Tactics team from 1988 through 1996; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of his career, Kenny Wilson |
---|
20 | 20 | | received 10 departmental decorations, including two Lifesaving |
---|
21 | 21 | | Medals, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, |
---|
22 | 22 | | and the Distinguished Command Medal, one of the highest medals |
---|
23 | 23 | | issued to a police officer; he was selected Officer of the Year by |
---|
24 | 24 | | his peers; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, He was also recognized by the 100 Club of Austin |
---|
26 | 26 | | on two occasions; one award was for saving a young girl's life, |
---|
27 | 27 | | and the second was a team award for his work with the Bomb Squad |
---|
28 | 28 | | in successfully dismantling an explosive device and preserving |
---|
29 | 29 | | evidence that led to the arrest and conviction of the person |
---|
30 | 30 | | responsible; and |
---|
31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, A man of honor and integrity, Kenny demonstrated |
---|
32 | 32 | | exceptional strength and courage throughout his career and |
---|
33 | 33 | | particularly over the last years as he endured the physical |
---|
34 | 34 | | challenges of his illness; his passion for life and his positive |
---|
35 | 35 | | attitude were truly inspirational to all who knew him; he will be |
---|
36 | 36 | | deeply missed; and |
---|
37 | 37 | | WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and son, and he |
---|
38 | 38 | | leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by his |
---|
39 | 39 | | family and his many friends; now, therefore, be it |
---|
40 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
---|
41 | 41 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
---|
42 | 42 | | family of Malcolm Kenneth Wilson: his wife of 27 years, Tracy; |
---|
43 | 43 | | his sons, Randy and Daniel; his mother, Billie Wilson; and his |
---|
44 | 44 | | sisters, Pam Wilson, Vicki Fughtt, and Patty Hicks; and, be it |

46 | 46 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
