                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 428
 In Memory
 of
 Malcolm Kenneth Wilson
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
 citizens of Austin in mourning the loss of Sergeant Malcolm
 Kenneth Wilson of the Austin Police Department, who died March 6,
 2009, at the age of 55; and
 WHEREAS, Malcolm Kenneth "Kenny" Wilson was born in
 Merced, California, on December 5, 1953; he moved to Austin with
 his family in 1965 and graduated from Reagan High School; he
 attended Austin Community College and worked as a police officer
 for The University of Texas before joining the Austin Police
 Department in 1980; and
 WHEREAS, He was a highly respected leader in the Austin
 Police Department and in the community; he had been the sergeant
 of the Bomb Squad since 2001 and a member of the Special Weapons
 and Tactics team from 1988 through 1996; and
 WHEREAS, Over the course of his career, Kenny Wilson
 received 10 departmental decorations, including two Lifesaving
 Medals, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal,
 and the Distinguished Command Medal, one of the highest medals
 issued to a police officer; he was selected Officer of the Year by
 his peers; and
 WHEREAS, He was also recognized by the 100 Club of Austin
 on two occasions; one award was for saving a young girl's life,
 and the second was a team award for his work with the Bomb Squad
 in successfully dismantling an explosive device and preserving
 evidence that led to the arrest and conviction of the person
 responsible; and
 WHEREAS, A man of honor and integrity, Kenny demonstrated
 exceptional strength and courage throughout his career and
 particularly over the last years as he endured the physical
 challenges of his illness; his passion for life and his positive
 attitude were truly inspirational to all who knew him; he will be
 deeply missed; and
 WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and son, and he
 leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by his
 family and his many friends; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
 family of Malcolm Kenneth Wilson: his wife of 27 years, Tracy;
 his sons, Randy and Daniel; his mother, Billie Wilson; and his
 sisters, Pam Wilson, Vicki Fughtt, and Patty Hicks; and, be it
 further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
 Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
 memory of Sergeant Kenny Wilson.
