| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Geneva Brown Zachary on the grand occasion of her 89th |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | birthday, on March 18, 2009; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Geneva Brown was born March 18, 1920, in Eagle |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Lake, Texas, to Sanko and Sewilla Brown; at an early age, she |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | married Louis Zachary, Jr.; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The couple was blessed with two children, Jane and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Charlene, and Mrs. Zachary now has six grandchildren, 15 |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, In 1963, Mrs. Zachary opened a day-care center, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | which she operated for 12 years; throughout her life, she has |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | been a community organizer, and she has collected and distributed |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Christmas gifts and goods for needy families every year; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, She is a devout Christian and has been a member of |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Mount Hebron Missionary Baptist Church for more than 40 years; |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | she hosted a Bible study group in her home for many years, and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | since 1960, she has been a writer of inspiring sermons, poems, |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | and prayers; her first book was published in 2000, when she was 80 |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | years old, and she has since published two other books; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Geneva Zachary is an exemplary lady who lives her |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | life to the fullest, and she is respected and beloved by her |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | family, friends, and community; on Sunday, March 22, she is being |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | honored with a birthday celebration at the church; now, |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature, hereby commend Geneva Brown Zachary on her many |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | contributions to her community and church and extend |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | congratulations to her on the joyous occasion of her 89th |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | birthday; and, be it further |
