SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 469 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Geneva Brown Zachary on the grand occasion of her 89th birthday, on March 18, 2009; and WHEREAS, Geneva Brown was born March 18, 1920, in Eagle Lake, Texas, to Sanko and Sewilla Brown; at an early age, she married Louis Zachary, Jr.; and WHEREAS, The couple was blessed with two children, Jane and Charlene, and Mrs. Zachary now has six grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren; and WHEREAS, In 1963, Mrs. Zachary opened a day-care center, which she operated for 12 years; throughout her life, she has been a community organizer, and she has collected and distributed Christmas gifts and goods for needy families every year; and WHEREAS, She is a devout Christian and has been a member of Mount Hebron Missionary Baptist Church for more than 40 years; she hosted a Bible study group in her home for many years, and since 1960, she has been a writer of inspiring sermons, poems, and prayers; her first book was published in 2000, when she was 80 years old, and she has since published two other books; and WHEREAS, Geneva Zachary is an exemplary lady who lives her life to the fullest, and she is respected and beloved by her family, friends, and community; on Sunday, March 22, she is being honored with a birthday celebration at the church; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby commend Geneva Brown Zachary on her many contributions to her community and church and extend congratulations to her on the joyous occasion of her 89th birthday; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in honor of Geneva Zachary.
