| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure in |

| 3 | 3 | | recognizing the Houston Parks and Recreation Department on the |

| 4 | 4 | | occasion of the renaming of the Cloverland Community Center as |

| 5 | 5 | | the Bessie Swindle Community Center; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Cloverland Community Center is being renamed |

| 7 | 7 | | in honor of longtime community organizer and leader Bessie |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Swindle at a ceremony on March 21, 2009; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The community center serves as a special |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | gathering place for social and cultural activities; it offers |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | enrichment programs for youths and a variety of clubs and classes |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | for adults and senior citizens; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, The center also serves as a location for wedding |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | receptions, family reunions, and parties; located in Cloverland |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Park, the community center enhances the quality of life for area |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | residents, and its renaming in honor of Bessie Swindle is a |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | fitting tribute to her leadership in the community; now, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | therefore, be it |

| 19 | 19 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |

| 20 | 20 | | Legislature, hereby congratulate all associated with the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Cloverland Community Center for their work on behalf of the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | community and extend best wishes for the future on the occasion |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | of the center's renaming as the Bessie Swindle Community Center; |
|---|
