SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 471
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure in
recognizing the Houston Parks and Recreation Department on the
occasion of the renaming of the Cloverland Community Center as
the Bessie Swindle Community Center; and
WHEREAS, The Cloverland Community Center is being renamed
in honor of longtime community organizer and leader Bessie
Swindle at a ceremony on March 21, 2009; and
WHEREAS, The community center serves as a special
gathering place for social and cultural activities; it offers
enrichment programs for youths and a variety of clubs and classes
for adults and senior citizens; and
WHEREAS, The center also serves as a location for wedding
receptions, family reunions, and parties; located in Cloverland
Park, the community center enhances the quality of life for area
residents, and its renaming in honor of Bessie Swindle is a
fitting tribute to her leadership in the community; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
Legislature, hereby congratulate all associated with the
Cloverland Community Center for their work on behalf of the
community and extend best wishes for the future on the occasion
of the center's renaming as the Bessie Swindle Community Center;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
honor of this occasion.
