| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | join Texans across the state in celebrating the exemplary |

| 4 | 4 | | accomplishments of Communities In Schools of Texas; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, An effective and successful dropout prevention |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | program, Communities In Schools was established in Texas in 1979, |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | beginning in Houston, and it now operates 27 programs across the |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | state; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Communities In Schools operates in partnership |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | with local school districts, businesses, and the community at |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | large to provide services to students who are at risk of dropping |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | out of school; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, In 2008 alone, this exceptional program served |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | more than 560,000 students across the state and provided |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | intensive case management to more than 85,000 students, keeping |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | 98 percent of eligible participants in school; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Ensuring the education of all young people in |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Texas is critical to maintaining a competitive edge in the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | workforce and a stable economy; Communities In Schools addresses |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | the myriad challenges faced by today's students by allowing them |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | to focus on learning; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Legislature, hereby commend Communities In Schools of Texas on |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | its exemplary achievements in keeping young people in school and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | call upon all Texans to celebrate March, 2009, as Communities In |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Schools Month and March 25, 2009, as Communities In Schools Day |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | at the State Capitol; and, be it further |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
