| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | join the citizens of Hudspeth County and Texans across the state |

| 4 | 4 | | in celebrating Hudspeth County Day at the State Capitol; and |

| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Organized in 1917 from territory in eastern El |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Paso County, Hudspeth County is named for State Senator Claude |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Benton Hudspeth of El Paso; Sierra Blanca is the county seat and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Dell City hosts the annual Hudspeth County Fair each September, |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Hudspeth County has been home to human population |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | since prehistory, and petroglyphs, pottery, and other remains |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | have been found at various springs in the area; the Jornada |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Mogolln people, along with the Otomoaco and Mescalero Apache |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Indian tribes, lived in the region; during the 1870s and 1880s |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | the United States Army and the Texas Rangers battled the Apaches |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | in the area several times; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Hudspeth County is rich in minerals, with zinc, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | silver, fluorspar, copper, and molybdenum occurring in various |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | locations; agriculture has also played a role in the development |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | of the county, and American pima cotton, hay, and cantaloupes are |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | the primary crops grown in the county; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, The citizens of Hudspeth County are justly proud |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | of its rich history and of the many contributions its citizens |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | have made to our state; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature, hereby join with the people of Hudspeth County as |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | they celebrate Hudspeth County Day at the State Capitol; now, |

| 28 | 28 | | therefore, be it |

| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
