SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 541 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to join the citizens of Hudspeth County and Texans across the state in celebrating Hudspeth County Day at the State Capitol; and WHEREAS, Organized in 1917 from territory in eastern El Paso County, Hudspeth County is named for State Senator Claude Benton Hudspeth of El Paso; Sierra Blanca is the county seat and Dell City hosts the annual Hudspeth County Fair each September, and WHEREAS, Hudspeth County has been home to human population since prehistory, and petroglyphs, pottery, and other remains have been found at various springs in the area; the Jornada Mogolln people, along with the Otomoaco and Mescalero Apache Indian tribes, lived in the region; during the 1870s and 1880s the United States Army and the Texas Rangers battled the Apaches in the area several times; and WHEREAS, Hudspeth County is rich in minerals, with zinc, silver, fluorspar, copper, and molybdenum occurring in various locations; agriculture has also played a role in the development of the county, and American pima cotton, hay, and cantaloupes are the primary crops grown in the county; and WHEREAS, The citizens of Hudspeth County are justly proud of its rich history and of the many contributions its citizens have made to our state; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby join with the people of Hudspeth County as they celebrate Hudspeth County Day at the State Capitol; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the citizens of Hudspeth County as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
