| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Kelly Burns of Austin, who is Mrs. Texas United America |

| 4 | 4 | | for 2008; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Kelly Burns received her crown as Mrs. Texas |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | United America on June 22, 2008; she was the first runner-up in |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | the Mrs. United America national pageant in October; she is a |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | childbirth educator, birthing assistant, and skin care |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | technician, and she has run a successful weight loss clinic; she |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | is the wife of Bruce Burns and the mother of two children; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Kelly is dedicated to a healthy way of life, and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | she encourages others to take care of themselves and avoid |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | substances that can harm them; her main platform as Mrs. Texas |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | United America has been her promotion of a tobacco-free lifestyle |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | for young people; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, She is a longtime volunteer, and she has supported |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | such organizations as the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Make-A-Wish Foundation, Safe Place, the Blue Santa program, and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | the American Cancer Society; she received a Gold Presidential |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Volunteer Service Award in 2004; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Kelly will crown a new Mrs. Texas United America |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | in June, 2009, but she will continue her volunteer work and her |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | efforts to keep young people from smoking; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Legislature, hereby commend Kelly Burns for her volunteer |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | services and congratulate her on her reign as Mrs. Texas United |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | America for 2008; and, be it further |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
